The holiday season is known worldwide as being a time for giving. In Barbados, it also a time for a full spruce up of the home and surrounding areas. General Manager of Worthing Court Apartment Hotel and Time Out Hotel, Alicia Farmer saw it as an opportune time to encourage persons sprucing up and in the spirit of giving, to donate their unused but perfectly functional items to charity!
The charity selected was Variety Children’s Charity of Barbados. The charity seeks to enhance the care and quality of life by committing to support sick and physically or mentally challenged children across Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. The organization is also well-known for its shuttling service for the disabled and year-round fundraising drives.
Commenting on the idea, Farmer said “… Christmas is not only a time for receiving but a time for giving back to those in need. If we reflect on all that we have and give to those who are in need, we are spreading the joy of Christmas which in itself is the most rewarding gift anyone can receive”. Staff of the hotels were encouraged to donate clothing and toys to the cause at the holiday staff function held at Worthing Court hotel on December 16th. In the midst of the merriment, employees gave graciously and took time to express that their hearts go out to the less fortunate especially at this time of the year.
